Biography of Zac Efron

Zachary David Alexander Zac Efron popularly known by the name Zac Efron is an American actor, singer, and dancer. He became popular after his appearance in Disney Channel’s Original Movie ‘High School Musical’. He was born on 18 October, 1987 in San Luis Obispo, California, USA. His father David Efron is an engineer at a power plant in Arroyo Grande, California and mother Starla Baskett also works in same power plant. Dylan is the only brother of Zac who is younger to him. Zac began acting from his high school when he was just 11 years; he acted in many plays under the theatre production of his high school. He began acting professionally in the early 2000 by working in the theatre called ‘The Great American Melodrama and Vaudeville’.

He appeared on stage in plays ‘The Music Man’, ‘Peter Pan’, ‘Little Shop of Horrors’, and ‘Auntie Mame’. Zac began to take the lessons on singing, along with his work on stage. Zac began to work in Television serials by appearing in the guest role in the serial ‘Firefly’ in 2002. He then appeared in guest roles in the TV serial ‘ER’ and ‘The Guardian’. In 2003 he got break in movie ‘Melinda’s World’ and played the character of a teasing boy named Stuart Wasser in his debut movie. He appeared in the lead role in the TV serial Summerland which was broadcasted on channel WB in 2004. In the same year he appeared in the lead role in the television movie of Lifetime Television Network ‘Miracle Run’. He appeared in the role of Steven Morgan one of the twin brothers who were suffering from Autism spectrum disorder. For his performance in movie Miracle Run he was nominated for Young Artist Award for Best Performance in a TV Movie, Mini-Series or Special by a Supporting Actor.

Zac appeared as Patrick McCardle in movie The Derby Stallion in 2005 and as Cody in movie ‘If You Lived Here, You’d be Home Now’ in 2006. The movie which helped Zac Effron to get recognition and popularity in Hollywood was ‘High School Musical’ the production of Disney Channel. In this movie he also started his career as a singer. He played the role of Troy Bolton a school going teenager who is captain of the school basketball team. He sung the songs ‘Get’cha Head in the Game’, ‘Start of Something New’ and ‘Breaking Free’ in the movie. Role of Troy Bolton in movie ‘High School Musical’ was very much liked by the viewers and made Zac’s very large fan following. He was awarded with ‘Teen Choice Award for Choice Chemistry’ which he shared with her co-star Vanessa Hudgens for performance in movie High School Musical. Zac reappeared as Troy Bolton in the sequels, High School Musical 2 in 2007, and High School Musical 3: Senior Year in 2008. High School Musical 2 was just released on the Television only but High School Musical 3: Senior Year was released to cinemas. His performance in high School Musical 3: Senior Year helped him to grab the couple of awards. He was awarded with ‘MTV Movie Award for Best Performance – Male’ and Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie Actor – Music/Dance.

He appeared in the musical film Hairspray of Kolaja Productions in 2007. He played the role of Link Larkin in Hairspray which was very much liked by the viewers. He was awarded with Hollywood Film Award for Ensemble of the Year and MTV Movie Award for Best Breakthrough Performance – Male for such a great performance in the movie. Zac Efron appeared on the cover page of the magazine Rolling Stone after giving the two block buster hits High School Musical 2 and Hairspray in 2007.

In April, 2009 Zac played the role of Mike O’Donnell in comedy-drama movie ‘17 Again’, which also turned out to be the award fetching movie for him. He won ‘Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie Actor – Comedy’ and ‘Teen Choice Award for Choice Rockstar Moment’. He appeared in the movie ‘Charlie St. Cloud’ released on 30July 2010 in the lead role of Charlie St. Cloud. He has been nominated for ‘MTV Movie Award for Best Performance – Male’ for his performance in movie ‘Charlie St. Cloud’.

Zac Efron was ranked 92 in Forbes Celebrity 100 list of 2008. He was awardeded with ‘Teen Choice Award: Choice Breakout Star’ in 2006; ‘Teen Choice Award: Best Male Actor’ and ‘Teen Choice Award: Choice Male Hottie’ in 2007. In 2011 he was awarded with ‘People’s Choice Award: Favorite Movie Star Under 25’ .
